Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can you provide me with a Superbill to send to my insurance company for reimbursement?Yes. You'll get a detailed Superbill after each session that you can submit to your insurance company.
-
Do I need a referral to see you?Generally speaking, no. All services at The Knee PT + Coaching are out-of-network, which means you should have the freedom to work with me before getting permission from your insurance company or your doctor first (although I highly recommend informing your doctor about the care you're getting so that we can all stay in the loop). The fine print: if you're trying to submit a Superbill to your insurance company for a reimbursement, please check your policy about whether or not you need a referral for out-of-network care.

Do you take insurance? No. I believe that the United States healthcare system is totally backwards. Most people end up paying more money out of pocket when they use their insurance vs. choosing to go out of network and pay cash rates instead. Insurance companies also place restrictions on the way a PT can treat during treatment sessions and how many treatment sessions are "medically necessary" for the patient before discharge (which is often far less than what most patients want/need in real life). These decisions are often made by representatives who don't work in physical therapy, and The Knee PT + Coaching believes you deserve way better than that. I've designed The Knee PT + Coaching to be a cash-based clinic only because I want to go above and beyond in the type of support I give you without the rules of insurance getting in the way.

What should I bring to my PT sessions? For the best possible experience, please bring your whole human self and let him or her shine! Also for your comfort and my ease with various treatment strategies, please wear shorts (or bring a pair with you if you prefer to start in pants). We'll do most of our sessions barefoot, but please come with your sneakers (or other sport-specific shoes if you're asked to). Runners, please bring all pairs of running shoes with you. This helps with the assessment of your injury and constructing the game plan to treat it.

Why do I need to schedule a Discovery Call before working with you?Great question! Meeting each other via Discovery Call first allows us both to learn about each other and decide if it feels like the right fit to work as a team. Time is a valuable and very limited resource, and the best way for you to stay on track and excel in your recovery is to work with someone you like and trust from Day 1. Bonus -- your Discovery Call is totally FREE! If both of us are feeling like we're going to rock it together on your journey back to sport (and have fun along the way too), then we'll get you scheduled by the end of your Discovery Call so you can get into the clinic ASAP. I got you!

Do you only work with athletes? No. While athletes and active individuals are my favorite group of people to work with, I enjoy working with any human who is committed to working hard and staying consistent in their rehab process. I also know that "athlete" means something different to many different humans. Even if you're a mom juggling 3 kids at home while you try to feed your own self and drink even half a cup of coffee before you get everyone out the door for the day, you're still an athlete in my book!
-
Do you work with youth and adolescent athletes?Yes! Another skillset that separates me from other sports physical therapists is that I have years of experience working with the youth and adolescent sports population. The first 2 years of my clinical career I worked in a clinic that supported athletes between the ages of 10 and 24. I know and believe that kids are not the same thing as small adults, and they require specialized skills and treatment approaches that meet their unique needs. One of my favorite things to do as a part of any treatment session is to make exercises creative and fun! It's also important to me to speak to youth/adolescents in a way that empowers them, boosts their confidence, and fuels their independence. Long story short, your child is in EXCELLENT hands with me!

How long will each session be?Whether it's PT or coaching, you can look forward to 55 minutes of Jen's undivided attention and support.
-
What should I do before my first appointment?Step one: be sure to book a Discovery Call to chat with Jen first. If it feels like a good fit, you'll be directed to scheduling for PT and/or coaching sessions. Upon scheduling your Initial Evaluation you'll get an email that assists in setting up an account for you on my software system, PTEverywhere. Please be sure to complete all paperwork sent to you through PTEverywhere before you arrive on your first day. If you're having trouble accessing these documents, please email Jen at jen@kneeptbend.com. P.S. - Completing your intake information ahead of time allows Jen to get a head start at your first session, which means she'll have more time to treat you so that you can walk away feeling better than you did when you arrived. Yippee!

How do I schedule an appointment with you?I meet with all new patients on a Discovery Call first before scheduling an Initial Evaluation to make sure that it feels like a good fit for both of us to work together before we dig in. At the end of your Discovery Call, I'll provide you with a link where you can book your sessions. You can book your Free Discovery Call here: https://calendly.com/jen-kneeptbend/discoverycall

Do you treat athletes with knee injuries only? No. While knee injuries are the injuries I'm most passionate about treating, I also enjoy helping athletes to overcome any injury that is holding them back from where they want to be, whether that's having pain while playing or being unable to play at all. Regardless of the injury you have, you'll still get the same leader-of-the-pack care at The Knee PT.
